Ingrown Toenails
What are ingrown toenails?
Ingrown toenails are not extremely common, but for those that do experience them, they can be a painful condition. Ingrown toenails occur when the side or corners of toenails grow into the flesh of the toe. This results in pain, inflammation, and even infection.
Why do I need ingrown toenail treatment?
Ingrown toenails will not just go away. In fact, they worsen without treatment. That is why treatment by a trained professional is what most people opt for. Untreated ingrown toenails can lead to severe consequences such as deep infection and in extreme cases have even been known to require amputation.
For those that are diabetic, treatment of ingrown toenails is critical. Due to the reduced blood flow to the lower limbs, there is more of a risk of complications.
What can I expect from the ingrown toenail treatment?
During the initial consultation, the ingrown toenail will be assessed and treated. On some occasions, a local anesthetic will be used to ensure a comfortable experience during treatment. For chronic and repetitive ingrown nails an in-office corrective surgical procedure will be offered. This procedure corrects the nail shape ensuring a permanent solution.
