Diabetes

Diabetes and foot health have a strong relationship. Diabetes can affect the blood supply to the feet resulting in a reduced ability to heal.

Peripheral nerves can be damaged resulting in a lack or altered sensation to the foot.

Poor circulation and sensation result in poor healing and the possibility of diabetic ulceration.

Patients often present to our clinic on an Enhanced Primary Care Plan for a diabetic foot assessment.

Circulation is tested every 6-12 months using a Doppler ultrasound. Complete testing of nerves is conducted to ensure sensation is normal.

Aside from testing, patients may require preventative routine footcare and footcare advice.
